Following an invitation from the Permanent Mission of Germany to the OSCE, and based on the findings and conclusions of the OSCE/ODIHR Needs Assessment Mission from 21 to 23 May 2013, the OSCE/ODIHR is deploying an Election Expert Team (EET) to observe the 22 September 2013 elections to the Federal Parliament.
Activities of the EET
The team consists of two international experts, drawn from two participating States.
The team will assess the election process for its compliance with OSCE commitments and other international standards for democratic elections, as well as with domestic legislation. Experts will, in particular, look into aspects related to the amended legal framework, as well as the regulation and practice concerning political party and campaign finance.
The EET will remain in Germany until 24 September. A final report on the electoral process will be issued approximately two months after the conclusion of the team’s work.
Previous elections
The OSCE/ODIHR previously assessed elections to the Federal Parliament in Germany in 2009. It also deployed an expert team to Germany in connection with the 2009 elections to the European Parliament.
