Kerstin Stendahl
Kerstin Stendahl is the Special Envoy on Environment Security at the Ministry of the Environment in Finland. Her work in the field of international environmental governance and diplomacy spans three decades. She was the special envoy on climate and environment at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland before which she worked at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi as the Head of Branch for Regional Seas and the Poverty and Environment Nexus.
She worked as the Deputy Secretary for the IPCC from 2017 to 2020 during which time the IPCC launched its special reports on global warming of 1.5 degrees, the cryosphere, and land. She was the Deputy Executive Secretary for the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention from 2012 to 2017 following up on the synergies process among the three conventions that she had co-chaired.
During her time as secretary of the Nordic Genetic Resources Council, the first Nordic strategy on access to genetic resources was published.
Kerstin Stendahl has published articles on verification in the global commons, international environmental governance, the poverty and environment nexus, and gender.
