Ambassador Evren Dağdelen Akgün
Ambassador Evren Dağdelen Akgün, born in Ankara in 1968, is a career diplomat. She holds a Master's degree in European Studies from the College of Europe, Brugge, Belgium, completed in 1996, and has undertaken post-graduate studies in International Relations at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, Austria, from 1990 to 1992. She earned her Bachelor's degree in International Relations and German Language and Literature from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, USA, in 1990. Further enhancing her academic credentials, she obtained a certificate in the Human Rights Cycle for Young Professionals from the Ecole Nationale d'Administration (ENA) in Paris, France, in June 2007. Ambassador Dağdelen Akgün speaks English, French and German.
Ambassador Dağdelen Akgün's professional journey is marked by significant contributions and leadership roles in diplomacy. In 2023, she served as a member of the Steering Board for the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. From 2017 to 2021, she served as the Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok. Her tenure as Deputy Director General of the Department of Policy Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Ankara from 2013 to 2016 also involved working on mediation and co-chairing the UN Friends of Mediation. She also led the Department of EU Affairs at the MFA in Ankara between 2011 and 2013.
Earlier in her career, Ambassador Dağdelen Akgün served as a Counselor at the Turkish Permanent Delegation to the EU in Brussels from 2007 to 2011 and headed the EU Affairs Department focusing on accession negotiations at the MFA in Ankara from 2004 to 2007. Her diplomatic postings include roles as the First Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C. from 2001 to 2003, Second Secretary and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Turkish Embassy in Tashkent from 1998 to 2000, and initial roles as Attaché and Third Secretary at the Turkish Permanent Delegation to the EC in Brussels from 1995 to 1998, following her early days in the Department of Policy Planning at the MFA in Ankara from 1993 to 1995.
