Training law students to provide primary legal aid across Moldova
Since 2015, the OSCE Mission to Moldova’s legal aid project has equipped law students with the knowledge and skills necessary to reach vulnerable people across Moldova and improve their access to state guaranteed legal aid. Through it, law students have learned how to organize public lectures and talk to potential beneficiaries, how to effectively identify the issues they face, and how to help them resolve their legal problems.
Over three years, a total of 80 students participated in the project, helping to ensure that over 2,000 people received much-needed legal assistance. In 2017, this model of delivering primary legal aid was replicated to involve law faculties and local NGOs, thereby ensuring the project’s sustainability in years to come. As part of the project, the Mission has supported the production of resources to guide future lawyers on providing primary legal aid and organizing outreach activities.
