OSCE-supported event contributes to provision of legal aid to vulnerable persons in Moldova
Twenty-one law students and three consultants from the National Legal Aid Council took part in a training event organized by the OSCE Mission to Moldova from 14 to 16 April 2016 on delivering primary legal aid to vulnerable persons.
The training event, which took place in Vadul-lui-Vodă, brought together students from Bălţi, Cahul, Chişinău and Comrat, who were provided with the relevant knowledge and practical skills they need. In particular, the students were trained to correctly identify legal problems facing potential beneficiaries and to formulate various options for their solution. They also acquired an understanding of how to interact with beneficiaries of the legal aid system and learned about relevant administrative issues.
“The fact that the trainers used easily accessible language helped to make the legal aid system clear to us, and it was extremely useful to receive on-the-spot answers to all our questions relating to the different scenarios and legal problems we might encounter,” said Maria Marin, a law student from Cahul.
The training event is part of a project implemented jointly by the OSCE Mission to Moldova and the Chisinau-based Institute for Penal Reform that aims to contribute to the creation of a replicable model for law students to provide primary legal aid in Moldova.
