Law students and paralegals trained to raise awareness about state guaranteed legal aid at OSCE event in Moldova
The OSCE Mission to Moldova organized a training event on raising the public’s awareness of state guaranteed legal aid for four paralegals and 18 law students from Bălţi, Cahul, Chişinău and Comrat, from 22 to 23 April 2016 in Vadul-lui-Vodă.
During the event, the participants gained knowledge and practical skills on organizing and conducting public lectures on how and in what situations the public can access legal aid provided by the state. As a result of the training event, the students and paralegals will conduct lectures in rural communities of Moldova with the aim of extending the reach of free legal services beyond urban centres.
“I really appreciated the focus on team work. It helped me learn how my colleagues cope with some of the challenges I am also facing,” said Andrei Leonteac, a law student from Balti. “Thanks to the various communication techniques presented by the trainers I now feel better prepared to deliver public presentations on legal aid.”
The training event is part of a project implemented jointly by the OSCE Mission to Moldova and the Chisinau-based Institute for Penal Reform that aims to ensure that citizens have access to legal information and are able to assert their rights.
