The Annual Security Review Conference (ASRC) is the OSCE’s main event for enhancing dialogue on regional security challenges.
It gives participating States an opportunity to exchange views on issues related to the OSCE’s politico-military dimension, to take stock of the relevant activities undertaken by the OSCE and its participating States, and to promote the exchange of information and co-operation with relevant international and regional organizations and institutions.
Under the 2020 Albanian OSCE Chair, participants of the three-day event will focus on “Building stability through dialogue”.
During the opening session, participants will exchange views on the security situation in the OSCE region, and the OSCE’s contribution in addressing the related challenges. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss the impacts of COVID-19 on security and stability in the OSCE area and identify joint responses to some of the unprecedented challenges caused by the pandemic.
Edi Rama, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Prime Minister and Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania and OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger will deliver keynote addresses.
A special session will be devoted to ensuring security and stability in the OSCE region in light of developments with respect to Ukraine. A second special session will focus on the Structured Dialogue, a process that explores new ways of addressing politico-military challenges and reversing the negative trends in the European security architecture.
During four working sessions, Capital- and Vienna-based experts and diplomats will address a broad range of topics related to the wide spectrum of politico-military security in the OSCE region:
- Transnational threats – current and future trends in the OSCE area and beyond
- Conflict and crisis situations in the OSCE area – building security and confidence
- Conventional arms control and confidence- and security-building measures – challenges and opportunities
- The OSCE’s role in early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management, conflict resolution, and post-conflict rehabilitation – lessons learned and the way ahead
