The OSCE Annual Security Review Conference (ASRC) is the organization’s flagship event for enhancing security dialogue and reviewing security work undertaken by the OSCE and its participating States. It provides participating States with an opportunity to exchange views on issues related to the OSCE’s politico-military dimension, and to promote the exchange of information and co-operation with relevant international and regional organizations and institutions.
Under this year’s Slovak OSCE Chairmanship, participants of the three-day event will focus on the motto “For people, dialogue and stability – strengthening comprehensive security in the OSCE area”.
Capital- and Vienna-based experts and diplomats will address a broad range of topics related to the wide spectrum of politico-military security in the OSCE region:
- Effective multilateral approaches to early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management, conflict resolution and post conflict rehabilitation: lessons learned and the way ahead
- Conflict and crisis situations in the OSCE area: building security and confidence
- Conventional arms control and confidence- and security-building measures: challenges and opportunities
- Transnational threats - current and future trends in the OSCE area and beyond
In addition, two special sessions will be devoted to ensuring security and stability in the OSCE region in light of developments with respect to Ukraine; and the Structured Dialogue, a process that explores new ways of addressing politico-military challenges and reversing the negative trends in the European security architecture.
The opening session will set the stage for substantive, focused and interactive discussions and will include welcoming remarks by Miroslav Lajčák, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic; The Rt Hon. Catherine Ashton, Baroness of Upholland, Former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; Dr. Heinz Fischer, Co-Chair of the Ban Ki-moon Centre and 11th State President of the Republic of Austria; and Thomas Greminger, OSCE Secretary General.
