OSCE helps to improve transparency of Armenian Central Electoral Commission
An OSCE-supported project to allow web-streaming of sessions of the Armenian Central Electoral Commission (CEC) was publicly presented to the media and the international community in Yerevan on 5 February 2013.
The OSCE Office in Yerevan provided technical support to enable all interested parties to watch live and recorded discussions of the CEC online through the Commission’s website.
“I strongly believe that this initiative will lead to further transparency of the Commission’s work, making the work of the civil society and the media easier and eventually contributing to enhanced public trust in the electoral system,” said Ambassador Andrey Sorokin, Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
The initiative is part of wider support for the CEC in ensuring transparent election administration and following the recommendations by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.
In addition to the OSCE, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) with the USAID assistance also contributed to the project.
