Violence against women and girls is a severe human rights violation that impacts about one in three women globally with femicide being the most extreme form. UNODC report reveals that in 2023, approximately 85,000 women and girls were killed, with 60% of these deaths attributed to intimate partners or family members.
The OSCE Gender Issues Programme (GIP) is organizing a high-level side event at the 69th Commission on the Status of Women in New York, titled “Not One More! Enhancing prevention and protection to end femicides across the OSCE region and beyond”.
The event will present:
- global trends in femicide prevention and recommendations for effective response mechanisms
- insights on data collection and global trends in measuring femicides
- trends within OSCE participating States in combatting femicide and examples of positive practice
- the work of the OSCE in meeting the requirements of the relevant OSCE Ministerial Council decisions and the OSCE Action Plan for the Promotion of Gender Equality (2004)
