OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina
Environmental activities
Air pollution, limited water and waste management capacities and uncontrolled construction compromise the living standards, health and security of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina and are an obstacle to sustainable development. In close co-ordination with the authorities, civil society and wider public, the Mission contributes to increased awareness and promotes collective action toward tackling environmental problems.
The Mission maintains close co-operation with the Network of Aarhus Centres in BiH, building the Aarhus Centres’ capacities and implementing joint projects. The Mission also assists environment ministries in conducting public consultations on draft documents and works with young people to strengthen legal expertise on the environment and promote understanding on recycling and responsible consumption. Through the co-organization of clean-up campaigns and multi-stakeholder meetings, the Mission assists local communities in rehabilitating shared spaces and addressing the problem of illegal dumping.
