The 23rd edition of the Central Asia Media Conference entitled “Promoting public value of the media in Central Asia” will offer two interactive sessions. The first session will focus on the opportunities and strategic dilemmas facing public service media in the region and in the broader OSCE area. It will explore what public service broadcasting (PSB) means in terms of programming, ethical standards, and interaction with the audience. At the same time, the session will gauge the attitude to PSB in the Central Asian participating States and Mongolia. The second session will address various other current aspects of freedom of the media and freedom of expression in the region.
Over more than 20 years, the Central Asia Media Conferences organized by the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media have provided a dynamic platform for the exchange of information and experiences on media freedom. This year’s event will again bring together participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as Mongolia, representing the government, media, journalists’ associations, civil society and academia to promote media diversity and pluralism and compliance with OSCE principles and commitments in the media freedom field.
The working languages will be English and Russian with simultaneous interpretation.
