The Roundtable on “Free Speech in the Age of Algorithms and AI”, as the first expert meeting on the issue, will provide a platform to discuss the key challenges to freedom of expression and media freedom when machine-learning technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), are deployed. It will also offer States the opportunity to discuss with experts the impact that algorithms and AI have in shaping and arbitrating information online, and to share their concerns regarding the consequential infringements on free speech. Thereby, this Roundtable will shape the future work of the project and guide the development of a strategy paper, which will be prepared ahead of a conference on AI and free speech organized by the RFoM in June.
