Energy Security in the Rasht Valley
4 January 2018
In 2013, the OSCE started a project, with the support of the Norwegian government, to renovate a series of Micro Hydropower Plants in the villages of Tagoba and Langar in the Rasht Valley, Tajikistan. The plants were designed to provide energy to homes and schools in a region heavily affected by flooding and energy shortages, and since completion, have prevented power shortages over the last two years.
The project is still supporting energy security in the Rasht Valley. In 2017 it helped to connect the village of Pingon to the national grid. Prior to the project, the village was completely isolated and had no electricity at all.
