Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity the world faces today. Be it for food production, creating jobs, increasing prosperity or mitigating climate change, access to energy is essential. Universal access to energy, increased energy efficiency and the greater use of renewable energy is crucial to creating more sustainable, inclusive and resilient communities.
The OSCE brings together energy decision makers from the public and private sector of major energy producing, transit and consuming countries. They exchange information and share best practices on sustainable and renewable energy and energy efficiency through forums, seminars, capacity-building workshops and publications, such as the Handbook on Protecting Electricity Networks from Natural Disasters. The Organization supports participating States as well as Partners for Co-operation to diversify their energy mix to create more energy security through renewable energy, both on a policy level and in practice.
The Organization’s projects differ in size and scope and include, among others, activities to build the Turkmen State Energy Institute’s capacities for drafting of the energy road map for renewables, assisting with the development of selected normative rules and regulations concerning dam safety of hydroelectric reservoirs in Tajikistan, providing farms in Kyrgyzstan with solar batteries and training owners and operators of small hydropower plants in Tajikistan on their management and maintenance.
