OSCE organizes roundtable discussion on effective implementation of the Aarhus Convention in Kazakhstan
The OSCE Programme Office in Astana supported a roundtable discussion on effective implementation of the Aarhus Convention in Kazakhstan which took place on 28 July, 2017 in Astana.
Some 30 representatives of the government entities, Aarhus Centres, environmental NGOs and expert community participated in the event organized in partnership with the energy ministry. The participants discussed ways of proper planning, fundraising opportunities, and effective implementation of the Aarhus Convention pillars. They also reviewed the draft strategic development plan of the Aarhus Centres and discussed co-operation opportunities among the stakeholders.
The 1998 Aarhus Convention consists of three pillars: access to information, public participation in environmental decision-making, and access to justice in environmental matters. Aarhus Centres provide platforms to engage citizens, governments and the private sector in a dialogue on environmental challenges.
The event is part of the Programme Office’s longstanding efforts to promote the Aarhus Convention in Kazakhstan.
