Kazakhstan’s Ombudsman presents 2016 report, published with support of the OSCE
The annual presentation of Kazakhstan’s National Human Rights Commissioner’s (Ombudsman) Report took place on 4 May 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Some 80 parliamentarians, government officials, legal scholars, representatives of non-governmental organizations and mass media discussed developments in human rights protection and policy recommendations made to governmental bodies in the report.
The translation and publication of the report in English, Kazakh and Russian languages was supported by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana. The document is based on the handling and analysis of collective and individual inquiries and complaints submitted to the Ombudsman and face-to-face meetings with citizens. It also covers materials related to the monitoring of different institutions throughout the country, mass media publications, meetings with non-governmental, international human rights organizations and foreign partners, communication with state authorities, as well as research conducted by the Ombudsman’s Office.
The event was organized in partnership with the Ombudsman’s Office of Kazakhstan and the Regional Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and is part of the OSCE Programme Office’s long-standing activities on enhancing the capacity of the National Human Rights Institutions in Kazakhstan.
