OSCE Mission in Kosovo trains judges and lawyers to improve property rights protection
A series of three workshops organized by the OSCE Mission for 90 judges and lawyers in Kosovo on improving the protection of property rights was completed in Prishtinë/Priština on 31 October 2012.
The workshops aimed to increase the participants’ understanding on how to apply international human rights standards in property-related cases, including expropriation and property compensation. Special emphasis was given to the European Convention on Human Rights.
“Full protection of property rights remains a challenge in Kosovo. In cases of expropriation or other interferences in the right to property, careful assessments of the legality and public interest need to be made as well as appropriate compensation awarded,” said OSCE Mission in Kosovo Senior Human Rights Advisor Silke Nebenführ.
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is mandated with human rights protection and promotion, democratization and public safety sector development. The Mission issues periodic reports on the level of enjoyment of property rights and challenges affecting this right.
