OSCE Mission in Kosovo trains airport managers, police, customs officers on airport security
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo concluded a five-day training course on 20 June 2014 on airport security for Prishtinë/Priština airport managers, police and customs officers, at the Kosovo Academy on Public Safety in Vushtrri/Vučitrn.
The training, delivered by an airport security expert from France, focused on international methods and techniques for the protection of passengers, air-traffic personnel, and aircraft from accidental or malicious harm. The course also covered good practices regarding airport operations and key information flows between security providers and airlines.
“The management of Prishtinë/Priština airport strives to provide security and safety for its passengers, staff, and equipment, and this training helped them explore best ways to do this,” said John Corrigan, Chief of the Organized Crime Section in the OSCE Mission in Kosovo. “The training also provided an opportunity to enhance co-operation between airport staff and the police and customs.”
The participants were trained on the legal requirements for meeting and implementing the international standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization, the capabilities and limitations of security equipment, as well as passenger and luggage screening procedures.
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is mandated with human and community rights protection and promotion, democratization and public safety sector development. It delivers advanced and specialized training courses for law enforcement agencies.
