OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina
Rule of law
The Mission supports the development of an independent justice system that upholds human rights and possesses the capacity and commitment to effectively investigate, prosecute and adjudicate serious crimes, including war crimes, hate crimes, trafficking in human beings, terrorism-related offenses, corruption, organized crime, and domestic violence.
Systematic data collection utilizing the OSCE’s trial monitoring methodology enables the Mission to identify both obstacles to the provision of fair and efficient criminal justice. This complex and nuanced contextual understanding informs the Mission’s engagement with relevant counterparts in order to enhance competencies, improve performance, and promote justice.
The Mission regularly conducts targeted advocacy efforts, advises on justice sector reform, and, in close co-operation with domestic institutions, organizes trainings, workshops, and roundtable discussions for judges, prosecutors, law enforcement, defence attorneys, legal support staff, and law students.
