OSCE Centre in Bishkek supports debate on preventing corruption
BISHKEK, 26 April 2011 – The OSCE Centre in Bishkek in cooperation with non-governmental organization the International Business Council held an open meeting today to discuss best practices in preventing corruption.
The meeting inaugurated a series of debates aimed at linking the discussions on governance, conflict prevention and economic development in Kyrgyzstan. The events will help key actors, such as state organs, the business, community and civil society, to bridge the gap between policy development in this field and public understanding of the issues at stake. The debates also provide a platform to share wider global experience in combating corruption.
Ambassador Andrew Tesoriere, the Head of the OSCE Center in Bishkek, said: “Stamping out corruption in Kyrgyzstan is widely recognized as absolutely pivotal to create a fresh start for the national economy, for national institutions and public trust in them. Today’s debate will seek to identify practical ways to convert words into precise actions. The OSCE remains committed to support the rooting of a new ethical culture in Kyrgyzstan.”
Aktilek Tungatarov, the Executive Director of the International Business Council, said: “Corruption is a problem worldwide. It is not only a reduction in corruption that can be considered a benchmark for success but also the creation of a management culture that makes the occurrence of corruption less likely.”
