OSCE Centre supports anti-corruption legislation discussion in Kazakhstan
ASTANA, 29 April 2013 - An OSCE-supported expert roundtable discussion on the draft law on combatting corruption was held in the Kazakhstan Parliament today.
The event brought together Kazakhstan parliamentarians, representatives of state agencies dealing with corruption, civil society representatives, and international experts. They discussed provisions of the draft law targeting corruption, specifically focusing on preventive measures, criminal and administrative offenses, as well as the draft’s compliance with international standards and other laws, including the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan. As an outcome, a set of recommendations was created; they are to be reflected in the draft law provisions.
“By supporting the discussion, the OSCE Centre in Astana seeks to contribute to the efforts of the government of Kazakhstan in combatting corruption, a priority policy task for the country,” said Ambassador Natalia Zarudna, the Head of the OSCE Centre in Astana. “We are committed to providing full-fledged support for the implementation of national programmes and ensuring compliance with OSCE standards on combatting corruption.”
