Winners of OSCE-supported media award promoting women announced in Yerevan
Thirty-one journalists were awarded for their media pieces promoting the activities of women in the political, social and economic fields. The winners were announced at the 5th Na/Ne annual awards ceremony in Yerevan on 13 February 2013. The event was co-organized by the OSCE Office in Yerevan, the British Council and the British Embassy in Yerevan.
Journalists representing print, online media, TV and radio companies as well as independent journalists were invited to submit their published stories covering the activities and achievements, problems and challenges of women from the gender equality perspectives.
The competition attracted 143 journalists with 300 entries, which were evaluated by a jury of professionals in the fields of media and women rights. Winners were chosen in the categories of TV and radio broadcasting, print, online, citizen report/blog article, photo story and commercial advertisement.
Naira Martikyan from Internews NGO, Anush Mkrtchyan from Radio Liberty, Nelly Babayan from Aravot daily, Anushik Davtyan from Ditaket.am, Astghik Sargsyan from Hraparak.am and Nelly Shishmanyan from My News and Persona Grata company were among the winners. A special fifth anniversary award was given to Sara Khojoyan who will visit the United Kingdom to learn about the British experience in promoting women in the media. Contest winners received trophies, certificates and monetary prizes.
Eleven special prizes were awarded by partner organizations, among them the United Nations Population Fund, World Vision Armenia, Oxfam GB Armenia, Public Journalism Club, the Institute for War and Peace Reporting, Armenian Human Rights Defender’s Office and the Armenian Young Women’s Association.
An anniversary exhibition of winning pieces over the past five years of the competition was displayed at the ceremony.
