OSCE Centre helps publish booklet on environmental security in Central Asia

TASHKENT, 1 March 2005 - The latest issue of a Central Asian environmental bulletin was today presented by the OSCE Centre in Tashkent.
The 4th issue of "Environmental Security and Civil Initiative" focuses on Central Asian regional co-operation and integration issues, the Aarhus convention on public access to environmental information, the rational use of water resources, eco-tourism in rural areas and environmental legislation.
Several articles were contributed by authors from Central Asia.
The quarterly issue in Russian, published since 2004, is a joint production with the Public Environmental Advocacy Centre ARMON, the State Committee for Nature Protection and the Institute for Strategic Research and Interregional Studies of Uzbekistan.
Four hundred copies will be distributed to libraries, environmental agencies, international organizations as well as NGOs and other interested parties.
Future issues of the bulletin will address topics such as nuclear, chemical and bacteriological toxic wastes; environmental migration; transboundary water resource management in Central Asia and environmental education and public awareness.
