OSCE Centre holds training courses for press services and journalists

TASHKENT, 23 June 2004 - In an effort to promote access to information and closer ties between state press services and the media, the OSCE Centre in Tashkent and Germany's Friedrich Ebert Foundation held training courses in Tashkent from 21 to 23 June.
Heads and representatives of press services of different ministries and state agencies learned how to enhance their skills in preparing press materials, collecting and analyzing information using modern technology and establish effective relations with the media and government bodies.
Journalists from eight regions of Uzbekistan, who took part in the courses, discussed ways of providing readers and viewers with information on events and problems in society, as well as giving them an opportunity to become actively involved in discussing the issues and helping to resolve them.
At the end of the training courses, participants took part in a roundtable where they discussed ways of improving co-operation between representatives of the state press services and journalists.
