OSCE resource centre opens at university of Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, 2 November 2001 - The OSCE Centre in Tashkent officially opened its Resource Centre at the National University of Uzbekistan, Faculty of Social & Political Sciences. The Resource Centre was opened by Ambassador Gantcho Gantchov, Head of the OSCE's Tashkent activity, Ms. Molly O'Neal, Deputy Chief of the United States Embassy in Tashkent, and Turabek Dolimov, Rector of the University. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of embassies, international organizations, and the deans of the University's faculties. All the attendees commented on the quality of the Resource Centre, and the new opportunities it will provide for students and faculty.
The Resource Centre was funded by the United States Mission to the OSCE, and includes a computer/Internet room, and an adjoining conference room. The computer/Internet room has seven computers with Internet access, and a printer. The conference room includes a large table, chairs, and several bookshelves, and will serve as a library for the faculty's materials and provide a meeting space for gatherings. Uzbek Tourism, as well as the British, German, Italian, French, Swiss, and Czech Republic embassies in Tashkent, provided pictures for the Resource Centre.
