OSCE organizes training session on women's rights in Uzbekistan
TASHKENT 7 September 2001
TASHKENT, 7 September 2001 (OSCE) - The OSCE Centre in Tashkent, together with the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), will hold from 8 to 13 September a training session on human rights report writing in Chatkal, near Tashkent. This is the second session in a three-phase programme, which aims at providing the skills to proficiently write and efficiently distribute human rights reports, using the United Nations Human Rights protection system. It addresses in particular persons working on women's rights issues in Uzbekistan. The training will be attended by the 25 participants who attended the first session in Samarkand in July this year and represent governmental and non-governmental organizations from different regions of Uzbekistan.
"The active participation of women is a prerequisite when building a democratic state," said Gantcho Gantchev, Head of the OSCE Centre in Taskhent. "Therefore we are glad to see that the Uzbekistan authorities, and the National Center of Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan are so supportive of our training", he continued.
"Based on OSCE commitments and the successful organization of a previous training session in 2000, the ODIHR and the Centre in Tashkent deemed it necessary to encourage new groups of people working on women's rights and related issues to obtain the skills on human and women's rights monitoring and reporting", he added.
International trainers from the Polish Helsinki Foundation will conduct this session. The training agenda includes information on competent report writing, strategic planing and the possibilities of constructive co-operation between non-governmental and governmental organizations. During this session the participants also decide the area they intend to monitor and report about and which they will present at the third session in December.
