OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine holds seminar for regional judiciary on handling administrative disputes
ODESSA, Ukraine 10 June 2010 - A seminar organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine (OSCE PCU) on the judicial review of administrative disputes, judicial ethics and conduct started in Odessa today.
The two-day event brings together judges of the regional administrative courts of Odessa, Mykolayiv and Kherson as well as the Odessa administrative court of appeal to discuss recent cases related to the judicial review of administrative disputes.
"The training of judges of administrative courts is extremely important to enhance the quality and consistency of judicial decisions and protection of human rights," said Ambassador Lubomir Kopaj, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine.
The seminar will cover aspects of the judicial review of administrative disputes, including disputes involving social security funds as well as those related to tax and land issues, opinion writing standards, judicial ethics and conduct.
The seminar is held in partnership with the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine and is part of an OSCE PCU project to support the development of administrative justice in Ukraine, financed by Germany. The OSCE PCU has worked to develop administrative justice in Ukraine since 2004.
