Ukraine introduces OSCE-supported national strategy on development of civil society

Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko on 26 February 2016 approved a new national strategy for the development of civil society for 2016-2020, a document which was drafted with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine in partnership with the Presidential Administration of Ukraine.
The strategy is based on a co-operative approach between representatives of government and civil society in fostering the growth of non-governmental organizations.
While endorsing the strategy, President Poroshenko noted the role of civil society in strengthening public accountability, countering corruption and promoting a comprehensive approach to security.
The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine supported the government-civil society working group that drafted the strategy, and brought international experience and expertise from other OSCE participating States.
“The updated civil-society strategy reflects key OSCE principles and commitments,” said OSCE Project Co-ordinator Vaidotas Verba. “The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine intends to continue supporting the government and civil society in co-operatively implementing the strategy.”
