OSCE supports discussions on the case-law of European Court of Human Rights among Ukrainian legal professionals
More than a hundred legal professionals gathered in Lviv to participate in the International Forum on the application of the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, organized jointly by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine and the law faculty of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
The three-day event that ended on 23 November 2014, focused on the discussion of specific provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights and the impact of the Court’s case-law on Ukrainian legal practice, special attention was paid to the violations of human rights in conflict situations. Overviews of the Court’s practices and approaches were presented by the judges of the European Court of Human Rights from various countries. Prominent legal practitioners experienced in presenting cases at the Court provided insights on its functioning including the issues of a case’s admissibility.
Since 2012, the annual International Forum has become a platform for legal practitioners, national stakeholders, academia and prominent think-tanks to discuss a wide range of legal issues in the region. The Forum is part of a project aimed at increasing the protection of human rights of Ukrainian citizens in courts. It is being implemented by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine with the support from the Canadian Government and upon the request of the Supreme Court of Ukraine together with the National School of Judges of Ukraine and the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine.
