Gender equality priorities defined at all-Ukrainian Gender Forum supported by the OSCE
KYIV, 15 November 2013 –Some 150 experts from government, NGOs, and international organizations gathered in Kyiv today at the all-Ukrainian Gender Forum to discuss gender equality issues. The event was jointly organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator (PCU), UN Women and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
Mechanisms of gender mainstreaming in public administration, gender-responsive budgeting , overcoming stereotypes and combating gender discrimination were selected as priority areas for further actions by the state, civil society and international organizations in the effort to achieve equal rights and opportunities for women and men in Ukraine.
“Enhancing gender equality is a priority for the OSCE and its 57 participating States, as it is of critical importance in fostering peace, sustainable democracy and economic development,” said Ambassador Madina Jarbussynova, OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine. “We assist our Ukrainian counterparts in addressing this issue through the implementation of the recently adopted State Programme for Gender Equality,” she added.
The event was organised within the PCU-implemented project “Support to Ukrainian National Response for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence”.
