OSCE Office in Tajikistan hosts first open plenary session of government interagency committee to combat trafficking
DUSHANBE, 31 March 2011 – Tajikistan's Interagency Commission on Combating Human Trafficking discussed how the government, international organizations and civil society can work together to implement the newly-adopted National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking during its first-ever official open plenary session, held today at the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.
Thirty government bodies, represented by Deputy Ministers and Heads of Executive Departments, examined how co-operation within government can address complex challenges related to legal reform, law enforcement, education, border management, protection of children, seasonal labour and support to trafficking victims.
"Human trafficking poses a transnational threat that must be addressed within a comprehensive security framework. The OSCE Office will continue supporting protection and prevention efforts, as well as development of the National Referral Mechanism, he added.
The Head of the Interagency Commission on Combating Human Trafficking, Abdusattor Rajabov, who chaired the meeting, said the development and adoption of the National Action Plan reflected "great political will in the process of combating human trafficking in Tajikistan."
