OSCE Office supports police reform in Tajikistan with strategic planning workshop
DUSHANBE, 7 May 2010 - A two-week strategic planning workshop for 27 senior police managers, organized by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan to foster police reform, concluded today.
Participants discussed how law enforcement agencies' capacity can be improved with strategic planning. They also assessed the need for further police training as part of the country's police reform. In addition, they discussed how to promote the reform inside the police force and how to attract the support of donors and international partners.
"This workshop contributed to enhancing the police mandate, skill development and structures to better equip them to respond to the crime situation," said Klaus Rasmussen, Deputy Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan. "It also is crucial to strengthen the relationship between citizens and the police as pre-requisite for a successful police reform."
The training course was conducted by two police reform and public relations experts from Germany specializing on organizational change.
