OSCE Secretary General Jan Kubis meets President and Foreign Minister of Tajikistan

VIENNA, 6 September, 2004 - OSCE Secretary General Jan Kubis visited the capital of Tajikistan today, after leaving Afghanistan, one of the OSCE's Partners for Co-operation.
In Dushanbe, the Secretary General met the Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov, and Foreign Minister, Talbak Nazarov, with whom he discussed matters on the OSCE's current political agenda and the further development of democratic processes in Tajikistan.
"During the meetings, I had the opportunity to discuss preparations of the country for the February 2005 parliamentary elections, as well as co-operation between the OSCE and Tajikistan.
"The situation of Tajik non-state media, security, anti-terrorism measures, the fight against drug-trafficking as well as trafficking in human beings, and the death penalty were the other main topics of discussion," he added.
The Secretary General will continue his Central Asian trip by visiting Uzbekistan on 7 September.
