OSCE organizes civic education summer camp for students in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 17 August 2001 (OSCE) - From 20 August to 3 September, the OSCE Mission to Tajikistan organizes a two-week summer camp for university students from the Sught Province in North Tajikistan.
The event, which will be organized by the OSCE Mission's field office in Khujand in the framework of a broad Civic Education Programme, aims at teaching a selected group of students on issues related to democracy; state institutions building; political system; political parties and their role in the political process; new parliament; and civil society. It will also provide an opportunity to the participants to gather experience and obtain new practical skills with regard to those issues.
For two weeks, some eighty university students from different backgrounds and in the age-group of 18 to 21 years, will have the opportunity to join this educational prgramme, which is conducted by professional trainers. The programme will be divided into two main parts: two third of the time will be dedicated to the various educational and practical activities, while one third will be used for sports and other leisure activities.
The preparation and organization of the summer camp was made possible thanks to financial support by the German Government.
