Human rights manual published in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 20 June 2001 (OSCE) - The OSCE Mission to Tajikistan yesterday officially launched the Russian-language "Manual of International Acts on Human Rights", published by the Tajikistan Ministry of Justice with the support of the Mission and the German Government.
The manual is addressed to judges, law-enforcement personnel, civil servants, students and other persons interested in international humanitarian law, and is the first publication of this kind in Tajikistan. It contains a compilation of basic international agreements in the fields of protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, prevention of torture, protection of the rights of refugees and victims of war, and promotion socio-economic rights, drafted and adopted within the framework of the United Nations and the Commonwhealth of Independent States. Tajikistan has ratified some, but not all of the agreements.
Copies of the manual were transmitted to the President of Tajikistan, the Parliament, the Council of Justice, the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Economic Court, the General Prosecutor's Office, the concerned Ministries, and local NGOs.
