OSCE Dushanbe workshop to focus on security of small arms and light weapons, ammunition management

DUSHANBE, 11 April 2005 - Forty-four selected staff from Tajik law enforcement agencies and armed forces will tomorrow take part in an OSCE workshop in Dushanbe on physical security of small arms and light weapons (SALW) and conventional ammunition (CA) stockpile management.
The four-day event, organized by the OSCE Centre in Dushanbe under the Comprehensive SALW and CA Programme in Tajikistan, is aimed at building up the capacity of Tajik law enforcement agencies and armed forces in reducing the risks of proliferation and improving the security of stockpiles on the basis of OSCE best practices.
The workshop will also help exchange information on SALW and CA practice among various law enforcement agencies and armed forces.
The workshop will be conducted in partnership with the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) with support from the OSCE Secretariat's Conflict Prevention Centre.
