OSCE Office in Tajikistan presents manual on rehabilitation of victims of domestic violence for psychology students
DUSHANBE, 21 September 2016 – A manual on rehabilitation of victims of domestic violence targeting psychology students published with the support of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan was presented at an event jointly organized with the Tajik National University. Copies of the manual were handed over to the University’s Department of Psychology and for distribution to other university libraries in the country.
The manual aims to improve the understanding of students on how to provide support to survivors of domestic violence. It explains both theoretical and practical aspects of counseling victims of domestic violence.
Viorelia Rusu, Gender and Anti-Trafficking Officer at the OSCE Office in Tajikistan said: “The students will use the manual to gain knowledge on dealing with domestic violence cases.” She noted that the Tajik National University introduced a special mandatory course entitled Psychology of Family Relationships included into the obligatory university curriculum for future psychologists and social workers. The OSCE-supported manual was endorsed by the University’s scientific-methodological committee.
Last year the Office provided expert support to Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry by publishing guidelines for police officers in dealing with domestic violence cases, and for lecturers of the Police Academy teaching the course on prevention of domestic violence, as well as a manual for lecturers on counteracting trafficking in human beings.
