OSCE Office in Tajikistan and Tajik politicians support International Women’s Day
Leading figures in seven Tajik political parties joined the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, in voicing their support for women in Tajikistan and for all women all over the world in celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2016.
In order to advance the position of women in all levels of political life in Tajikistan, the OSCE Office in Tajikistan works with the country’s political leaders.
“The perception of women as political leaders can only come with women’s true integration within political parties,” said Vesna Ivanovikj-Castarede, Legal and Electoral
Reform Officer at the OSCE Office. “Gender stereotypes and cultural differences should not dissuade women in politics.”
The leaders of all seven Tajik registered political parties expressed continued support for women in society, support for the active participation of women in Tajikistan’s political life, gender equality for women in the political arena, and support for gender-related programmes. They also highlighted the importance of advocating for changes in social policies, education for youth, equality between women and men, and equal opportunities for women as a prerequisite for achieving gender equality in the country.
