OSCE Office in Tajikistan supports annual Pamir Invest Forum to promote investment and regional trade
The annual Pamir Invest Forum, bringing together more than 160 participants from across the country, and Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan, was held in Khorog on 15 and 16 August 2014, with the support of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, and focused on domestic and foreign investment opportunities, tourism and regional co-operation.
Attending the Forum were representatives from governmental structures, the business sector and the development community. Sessions at the Forum covered how to effectively attract domestic and foreign investment to the Free Economic Zone of Ishkoshim; reviving and promoting tourism in the region; and developing solutions to enhance regional trade and economic co-operation.
The OSCE Office in Tajikistan supported the event organizers with relevant international expertise in good economic governance in cross-border trade.
"We are pleased to have been able to introduce the topic of anti-corruption into the plenary session discussions of the Forum,” said George Sand, Economic Office of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan. “We highlighted the existing challenges in tackling corruption in trade activities, but also received valuable recommendations for solving the problems and shortcomings in governance and anti-corruption when facilitating cross-border and international trade.”
