OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje supports Ombudsman's role in fighting discrimination
SKOPJE, 14 October 2010 - A theatre play that aims to reduce stereotypes and prejudice is a part of the third and final phase of an OSCE-sponsored project to promote the Ombudsman Institution was presented today in Skopje.
As part of the Ombudsman support program, a theatre play entitled "Same in a Different Way" will be performed in Skopje and six other locations where the Ombudsman Institution has regional offices. The project, funded by the Swedish International Development Agency supports the Ombudsman Institution in its role of safeguarding against discrimination.
"One of the hallmarks of a mature democracy is the government's unfettered co-operation with the Ombudsman Institution. Such co-operation sends a clear signal that human rights are a priority to the government," said the Head of OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje, Ambassador Jose Luis Herrero.
Ombudsman Ixhet Memeti said, "I hope that the message of this play shall be properly understood and thereby, contribute towards the strengthening of civilized rules of behaviour and an awareness of the need to respect differences. These are among the most essential attributes of our society."
The Mission launched the Ombudsman support project in 2004. It is set to conclude at the end of 2011.
