OSCE Skopje Mission organizes youth leadership conference
SKOPJE 28 March 2003
SKOPJE, 28 March 2003 - The OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje and the Nansen Dialogue Centre will host their third joint Youth Leadership Conference from 28 to 30 March in the town of Mavrovo, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
The event will bring together a range of secondary school students from ten schools in the Skopje area to discuss and learn about leadership development, conflict resolution, teambuilding and how to find and implement solutions to the challenges facing their communities. These objectives will be achieved with the help of lectures, role playing and debates.
As the organizers prepare to kick off the third conference in the series, they are seeing a growing momentum among the participants to work together on projects in their schools and communities.
"The energy and enthusiasm developed by these conferences are considerable", said Joe Brinker, confidence-building field co-ordinator for the OSCE Mission and organizer of the programme. "Now we are moving to the next step by providing participants with the financial and organizational support to lead their own projects. It puts what they have learned into practice, and that is important".
Following this conference, the OSCE mission intends to organize a similar event for students from the Ohrid/Struga area. The conferences are funded by the Canadian International Development Agency.
