OSCE Mission to Skopje promotes inter-ethnic dialogue through mountaineering
SKOPJE 14 December 2007
SKOPJE, 14 December 2007 - A multiethnic group of young mountaineers who completed a year-long OSCE Mission-supported course received their licences as professional mountain guides today at a ceremony in Skopje.
"During all these months I really enjoyed seeing young men and women from different ethnic backgrounds striving to reach one goal - to get the prestige license A for professional mountain guides. I hope that they also better understood the advantages of different cultures," said Bernard Segarra, the Head of the Confidence Building Department within the OSCE Mission to Skopje.
Sanela Siljanovska, who received her license today, added: "Our mountains are the most beautiful part of the country. Now that I have been trained thanks to the OSCE Mission, I feel confident to lead a group of hikers and to show the tourists the wonders of the land."
The project was conducted by the non-governmental organization Macedonian Federation of Mountaineering Sports and supported by the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje. As a part of the project the OSCE Mission also donated mountaineering equipment.
