OSCE Mission to Skopje trains parents, teachers on decentralized education
SKOPJE, 7 October 2007 - The OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje has helped to inform hundreds of school board members, parents, teachers, municipal officials and civil society activists across the country about their roles and responsibilities in a decentralized education system through a series of workshops, the last of which ended today in Kriva Palanka.
This eight-month project was supported by the Ministry of Education and Science and the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje.
"The project contributed to more efficient decentralization of education as a strategic process in the country," said Alenka Verbole, Education Development Coordinator in the OSCE Mission.
"Despite these achievements, it was observed that teachers and parents are still marginalized in terms of access to relevant information and that the further efforts are needed with a view to improving the situation in the field of education."
Workshop participants also received a brochure on education and decentralization published by the OSCE Mission as part of the project.
