OSCE Skopje Mission helps young people expand knowledge on economy and politics
SKOPJE 3 November 2006
SKOPJE, 3 November 2006 - A group of 36 young people and teachers will take part in a study tour to Skopje tomorrow as part of a project to promote inter-ethnic dialogue and empower them to become more active citizens through democracy-building and economic activities.
"The project follows a summer camp, organized this year by the Mission, and was designed to help increase the participants' knowledge of good governance, politics and economy, as well as to help improve their communication skills," said Alenka Verbole, the Mission's Education Development Co-ordinator.
"Recommendations of the OSCE High Commissioner on the National Minorities were also used to develop the project."
During the study tour, participants will get to know the work of the Parliament, the Government and the Judicial System, as well as the history of Skopje. During later visits to Kumanovo and Tetovo they will learn more about the cultural richness of their country.
Nenad Aleksin, a student from Kumanovo, added: "The topics that will be covered during the visit are fundamental for our development. We all need to be engaged in democracy and want to see economic development. Besides, we will have a chance to meet the former president."
