OSCE Mission to Skopje trains police officers on new approaches to fighting drug abuse
From 16 to 19 September 2013 the OSCE Mission to Skopje is holding a workshop for police officers to promote the latest techniques in fighting illegal drug abuse. The workshop will focus on raising public awareness of the dangers of illegal drug use emphasizing consequences of drug addiction.
The course is built upon best practice in Turkey where the police works hand in hand with local organizations to promote public awareness of the issue of drugs. Sixteen police officers will learn about narcotic intoxication, its causes and prevention methods, and about communication with the families of drug abusers.
Interacting with school teachers, parents and pupils is another important component of the training course; this is meant to contribute to a safer environment in schools.
Three members of the professional team of the Organized Crime Drug Unit from Edirne Police Department in Turkey, which pioneered the project in the city of Edirne, will deliver the training.
The project is part of the OSCE Mission to Skopje’s support to the Interior Ministry in further strengthening police prevention mechanisms at central and local level.
