OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier met the Irish Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Eamon Gilmore in Dublin on 10 November 2011. They discussed Ireland’s 2012 Chairmanship of the OSCE as well as the upcoming OSCE Ministerial Council in Vilnius on 6 and 7 December.
Gilmore discussed with Zannier Ireland’s Chairmanship priorities, which will include conflict resolution, building on the country’s recent experience, better economic and environmental governance, and human rights and freedom of the media. Zannier assured Gilmore of the OSCE Secretariat’s full support during the Chairmanship. He also held consultations with the members of the Irish Chairmanship Task Force in order to prepare for next year.
At the end of his two-day visit, Zannier spoke at the Dublin-based Institute of International and European Affairs about the OSCE’s approach of addressing contemporary threats and challenges through building trust.
