OSCE Mission to Serbia hosts forum on police management training systems
BELGRADE, 15 June 2010 - More than 50 Serbian senior police officers discussed today in Belgrade the latest trends in senior police leadership training at an OSCE-supported forum on police management training systems.
Presenters from Slovenia, Sweden, Hungary and the United Kingdom introduced and discussed various models of training and professional development for police managers.
"Serbia's Interior Ministry recognizes the importance of training for police managers. The goal of today's forum is to also encourage police efforts to provide training for all ranks, which is a key factor for building an effective police service for the benefit of all citizens of the country," said the head of the OSCE Mission's Law Enforcement Department, Torbjorn Sande.
Kul Verma from the UK National College of Police Leadership, one of the lecturers at the forum, added: "Police services in every country need to devote resources to developing professional capacity of their chief officers, who play a key role in making sure their organizations work in the most efficient manner."
The OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Interior Ministry work closely to encourage the development of a sustainable police management training system as a vital aspect of police reform.
