BELGRADE 8 January 2005
BELGRADE, 8 January 2005 - Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, expressed his concern over yesterday's tragic incident at the border between Serbia and Montenegro and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
A young Albanian, Dasnim Hajrulahu from southern Serbia, lost his life while, according to reports, trying to cross the border.
The OSCE Mission expects that a full and thorough investigation of this case will take place, as announced by the Serbia and Montenegro Defence Minister, Prvoslav Davinic.
The Head of the OSCE Mission appeals to all sides in southern Serbia to show restraint and calm in this situation and continue to contribute positively to the consolidation of democratic and multi-ethnic stability in the region.
Stability in southern Serbia should remain the key priority of all concerned - central authorities, the Co-ordinating Body for southern Serbia, local government and international organizations, including the OSCE.
