OSCE Mission trains Montenegrin prison staff to combat drug abuse in prisons
BELGRADE/PODGORICA 3 November 2003
BELGRADE/PODGORICA, 3 November 2003 - Over half of the prison staff in Montenegro have today completed a ten-day training programme on fighting drug abuse among inmates, organized by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro.
The Head of the OSCE Mission's Office in Podgorica, Ambassador Rudolf Bogner, said that the course was aimed at helping prison staff to identify different types of drugs used by inmates.
"Most importantly", he said, "it equips the prison staff with the tools to deal professionally with the effects of drugs on inmates."
In order to mark the successful completion of the training programme, Ambassador Bogner presented a Certificate of Recognition to Alexander Razic, Director of the Prison Service Training Centre, where the course was held.
The OSCE Mission's Office in Podgorica supports prison reform within Montenegro. The Office plans in 2004 to hold training schemes to deal with drug abuse, specifically designed for medical staff of the Prison Hospital.
